What Is The Difference Between Utopian and Dystopian Literature?

Image
It may sound obvious to the average reader, but there is still some confusion in the literary world on the differences between a Utopian and dystopian work of literary art. They are two very different concepts, but sometimes they can mix and match. For instance, a Utopian may use aspects of a dystopian in its prose and plot, and a dystopian world may intentionally disguise itself as a Utopian one only to give you the twist. I thought this was worth discussing as I begin my new Little Run Series taking place in the Utopian world of Hart, something of an alternate version of Earth set somewhere between the near and far future (a stride over two hundred years forward). It will soon be released on my Wattpad , but I thought it was worth discussing the genre as we lead up to its release. So what's the difference? What is a Utopian Story? Loosely a Utopian story could be described in the plainest sense as the ideal or perfect world. Usually, the author may have some underlying...

Secret Places: An Introduction to the World of Little Run

Coastal view of Little Run, port side (Image generated by Art Breeder ) A new short story series , soon to be released on Wattpad .      The world that we call home is a world that's not much different than yours. It is populated by communities of humans and various less intelligent life forms. It is a simple world, and yet a very advanced one, I should add. Today it goes by the name of Hart, but I suppose it has gone by many names in ancient history and will go by many names to come as it continues to evolve. It is a world relatively free of strife, but this wasn't always so.    Wars and genocide became rampant as tyrants became bolder, enabled to greater heights by the potential of artificial intelligence and the surveillance and war technologies that came with it. Revolutions were rampant, and protests were commonplace, but they soon were crushed by counter opposition. People died of starvation and preventable disease while resources that would have...

Introducing the World of Little Run

Image
Coastal View of Little Run, Port side (image generated by ArtBreeder)   Hello everyone and thank you once again for visiting Other World's Art. I've read and heard about a lot of post-apocalyptic and dystopian series, but how often do you see utopian series on the market? It's not often you see a series that explores the possibility of what a better future might actually look like. Introducing The Little Run Chronicles. These stories follow the lives and drama of folks living in a community-based semi-futuristic utopia. There no wars, genocide, or mass starvation. The past strife of the "old world" is over, but plenty of problems remain even for these evolved small town residents. Crime and violence remain prevalent in some communities, death and tragedy still occurs, and the people of Little Run certainly aren't without their life struggles. I will introduce this short story series that will be released and available to read online for free on my Wattpad ....

Why I Began Otherworld's Art

Image
I started this business because I have always been passionate about entrepreneurship and giving back to the community. I believe in supporting the arts by supporting independent artists and author both locally and around the world. I believe this is best done through business partnerships and working with artists and author to connect their works of art with the general public and with individuals who will appreciate their work. This idea in part came from discovering these masterpieces pictured above produced by artists in the South Asian country of Bangladesh. These were brought back by my mother from a trip she took to Bangladesh years ago in hopes of sharing their cultural beauty with people in the United States. For years these precious works of art sat in a box and I felt they deserved to be appreciated and seen. I have sold a few locally and watched the faces glow of some who purchased them and decided they were something I wanted to share. There are many talented art...

Frames are acquired domestically and we hope to work with artists here as well as from around the world. The mission of the business is simple. We want to connect artists with art lovers in order to share their work with those will appreciate it most. Currently most pieces are from Bangladesh but we also hope to acquire art from other countries and to partner with local artists here in the United States.
